Tropical systems monitored in Pacific and Atlantic as Cristobal forms
Multiple tropical weather systems are currently being monitored in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. In the Central Pacific, a disturbance east-southeast of Hawaii is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm, potentially nearing the islands by late Friday. Forecasters warn of heavy rain, flooding, and dangerous surf, with a 90 percent chance of development into a tropical cyclone within the week.
In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Cristobal has formed in the central subtropical region. It is moving east at approximately 25 mph and is not expected to pose a threat to land before it dissipates. Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center is tracking a separate low-pressure system in the central Atlantic with a 70 percent chance of becoming a tropical depression later this week.
Additional disturbances are being monitored near the Cabo Verde Islands and northeast of Bermuda. In the Pacific, other low-pressure zones near Mexico are also under surveillance, though they currently pose no immediate threat to the mainland.
