Atlantic tropical disturbance Invest 96L monitored for development
Forecasters are monitoring Invest 96L, a tropical disturbance in the eastern Atlantic that has a chance of developing into a tropical depression or storm. The system is moving west-northwest toward the Caribbean. While some models suggest a high probability of development, recent updates from the National Hurricane Center indicate that environmental conditions, including wind shear and Saharan dust, may become less favorable toward the weekend, potentially limiting its strength.
If the system organizes into a named tropical storm, it will be called Dolly. Currently, the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season has been relatively quiet, with only three named storms recorded so far. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts a below-normal season, largely due to the influence of a strengthening El Niño phenomenon.
