Atlas accused of halftime espionage against Santos Laguna in Liga MX match

On July 25, 2026, Atlas defeated Santos Laguna 1‑0 in the second round of the Apertura 2026 season. After the match, video footage circulated showing individuals dressed in Atlas apparel lingering near Santos' locker‑room area during halftime. Reporters identified the figures as members of Atlas' technical staff, including head coach Hernán Crespo and physical trainer Federico Martinetti, allegedly attempting to listen to Santos coach Renato Paiva’s tactical briefing.

Neither club has issued an official comment, and the Liga MX disciplinary commission is expected to open an investigation into possible breaches of stadium security protocols. The incident comes shortly after Atlas changed ownership, being sold to Grupo PRODI in June 2026, while Santos continues a difficult campaign under Paiva.
