Atlas Air Worldwide boosts SAF use and takes 49% stake in Air Atlanta

Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings released its 2025 sustainability report, noting that the carrier increased its sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) consumption to 3.3 million gallons – a ten‑fold rise from the previous year – and joined IATA’s CO2 Connect initiative. The report also highlighted the company’s order for 20 Airbus A350F freighters, with options for another 20, aimed at cutting fuel use and emissions by up to 20 percent.

In a separate transaction, Atlas Air completed a strategic investment in Icelandic ACMI and charter operator Air Atlanta, acquiring a 49 percent equity stake. Through its subsidiary Titan Aviation Holdings, Atlas also took ownership of Air Atlanta’s aircraft, which will be leased back to the carrier. The partnership is intended to expand Atlas’s global cargo network and increase wide‑body capacity on key international routes. CEOs Michael Steen of Atlas Air and Baldvin M. Hermannsson of Air Atlanta both emphasized the long‑term growth benefits of the deal.
