Atlas Çağlayan murder case: Mother appeals sentence
A court has sentenced 14-year-old E. Ç. to 18 years, 10 months, and 15 days in prison for the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Atlas Çağlayan in the Güngören district of Istanbul. The defendant was convicted of intentional homicide against a minor, violating Law No. 6136, and repeated threats with a weapon.
Gülhan Ünlü, the mother of the victim, expressed profound dissatisfaction with the ruling, stating that “justice was not served for Atlas.” She criticized the sentence, arguing that due to the defendant's age, the actual time served would be significantly reduced, describing the outcome as a “reward for the killer” rather than a punishment.
Ünlü also reported receiving threats via messages and phone calls following the court proceedings. She confirmed that the family intends to appeal the decision at the regional court of appeals.
