Atlas Energy to expand autonomous truck fleet to 100 in Permian Basin
Atlas Energy Solutions and Kodiak AI announced plans to grow their driverless truck fleet in the U.S. Permian Basin from 28 vehicles to 100 by mid‑2027. The expansion adds a second load‑out point along Atlas’s 42‑mile “Dune Express” sand conveyor, linking depots in Texas and New Mexico and widening delivery reach across the oil‑field region.
Since the program began in 2024, the fleet has completed about 7,000 loads, moved more than 450,000 tons of proppant sand and logged roughly 23,500 driverless hours. Highlights include a record 176 loads delivered in a single day and the first autonomous triple‑trailer operation hauling over 135 tons. Public‑road operations are targeted for early 2027, pending regulatory approval.
