Atlas FC and UdeG unveil new stadium project in Zapopan

Atlas FC and the Universidad de Guadalajara (UdeG) have officially presented a project for a new stadium in Zapopan, Jalisco, to be located within the Ciudad UdeG development. The venue will serve as the home for both Atlas and Leones Negros. Designed by the international firm Populous, the stadium is expected to have a capacity of approximately 40,000 spectators and features a design intended to bring fans close to the pitch, with the first row less than nine meters from the field.

The project involves an estimated investment of approximately 5 billion pesos (roughly 250 million USD) provided by Grupo PRODI. Under the agreement, the stadium will be built on 16 hectares of UdeG land via a 99-year lease. The ownership structure is planned as 80% for Grupo PRODI and 20% for the university. Construction is slated to begin in 2027, with a target inauguration date in 2030.

Beyond football, the multifunctional complex will include commercial spaces, cultural areas, and a mariachi plaza. While the project moves forward, local residents from nearby neighborhoods have requested formal participation and detailed studies regarding the impact on mobility, water, electricity, and security.
