Atlas Renewable Energy launches Estepa Solar in Chile
Atlas Renewable Energy has introduced Estepa Solar, a new solar plant with integrated storage located in María Elena, Antofagasta Region. The facility combines 215 MW of solar capacity with a battery storage system providing 418 MW of power and 1,672 MWh of capacity, offering four hours of duration.
The project serves two distinct clients through long-term contracts. For the mining company Codelco, the plant provides a continuous energy supply by combining solar generation and storage to cover nighttime consumption. For the generator Colbún, the agreement provides access to battery storage capacity, allowing the company to manage its portfolio and the electrical system by charging during peak solar availability and injecting energy later.
The plant is expected to generate approximately 600 GWh per year.
