Atlas Salt signs MOU with CN Rail for Great Atlantic Salt Project logistics
Atlas Salt has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with CN Rail to evaluate multi-modal rail solutions for its Great Atlantic Salt Project in Newfoundland. The partnership aims to study rail movement, railcar supply, and transload arrangements to connect marine distribution with CN’s inland rail network.
By integrating rail into its logistics strategy, Atlas Salt intends to reduce reliance on expensive truck transportation. This shift could lower delivered costs and expand the company’s reach into industrial centers across Eastern Canada and the United States. The company noted that incorporating rail could improve the project's overall economics compared to the original feasibility study, which relied primarily on trucking.
