Morten Hjulmand joins Atletico Madrid on five‑year deal
Danish defensive midfielder Morten Hjulmand has completed a transfer from Sporting CP to Atletico Madrid. The 27‑year‑old signed a contract that runs until 30 June 2031 and the clubs agreed a fee of roughly €40‑45 million (about £34 million). Hjulmand began his career in the youth ranks of FC Copenhagen, later played for Admira Wacker in Austria, captained Lecce in Italy and helped Sporting win two Portuguese league titles and a cup before moving to Spain. He passed a medical at the Vithas‑Invictum high‑performance centre in Madrid and was presented at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano stadium. The signing follows strong interest from Manchester United, Arsenal, Juventus and other Premier League clubs, but Atletico secured the player as their second summer acquisition after left‑back Alejandro Grimaldo.
