Atlixco to host Valle de Catrinas festival with pre-Hispanic theme
The Valle de Catrinas festival in Atlixco, Puebla, is set to inaugurate its 2026 edition on October 2. Municipal President Ariadna Ayala will lead the opening ceremony at 18:30 in the Atlixco Zócalo.
This year’s theme focuses on pre-Hispanic gods and features 27 monumental catrinas. While 19 of these figures will be displayed throughout Atlixco, eight will be sent to international locations, including New York and various European cities, to promote Mexican identity and traditions.
The event is expected to draw approximately 850,000 visitors, generating an estimated economic impact of 360 million pesos. This influx is anticipated to benefit local sectors including hospitality, gastronomy, commerce, handicrafts, and floriculture.
