Atlántico Transit Institute suspends new speed cameras on Vía al Mar

The Atlántico Transit Institute has suspended the implementation of three new speed cameras on the Vía al Mar, the corridor connecting Barranquilla and Cartagena. This decision follows intervention from the Ministry of Transport and instructions from Atlántico Governor Eduardo Verano. Transport Minister Elsa Noguera had previously criticized the plan to increase the number of detection devices from four to seven, labeling the amount as “excessive” and questioning the technical criteria and jurisdictional authority behind the expansion.

In a related development, the Magdalena and La Guajira Banana Association (Asbama) has voiced support for the Ministry's stance. José Francisco Zúñiga Cotes, president of Asbama, highlighted mobility issues on the Ciénaga–Fundación corridor. He reported that a speed camera near the Río Frío bridge, which enforces a 30 km/h limit, is causing traffic congestion exceeding three kilometers and hindering the transport of agricultural goods.
