Julián Álvarez scores winner for Atlético Madrid against Deportivo

Julián Álvarez scored the decisive goal in Atlético Madrid’s 1-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruña at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. The Argentine striker found the net in the 48th minute following a cross from Álex Grimaldo, marking his first La Liga goal in eight months.

Following the match, Álvarez issued a public apology to the Atlético supporters. He addressed the tension stemming from his summer attempt to transfer to FC Barcelona and his comments made during the World Cup. “I want to apologize to our fans for my words during the World Cup. It was a mistake, both in the way I expressed myself and the timing,” Álvarez stated, adding that he understands the fans' anger.

Atlético manager Diego Simeone welcomed the apology, noting that it is not easy to admit mistakes and expressing confidence that the player will feel more at peace. The victory moves Atlético Madrid to second place in La Liga, trailing leaders Barcelona by two points.
