Athletico-PR defeats Bahia 2-1 to secure third place in Brasileirão

Athletico-PR defeated Bahia 2-1 at Arena da Baixada during the 28th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Goals for Athletico were scored by Esquivel and Jorge Rivaldo, while Erick Pulga scored for Bahia. The match was decided in the final minutes when Athletico goalkeeper Mycael saved a penalty taken by Everaldo. Following the result, Athletico-PR moved to 49 points, securing third place in the standings, while Bahia dropped to fifth with 46 points.

Bahia coach Rogério Ceni criticized referee Anderson Daronco following the loss, specifically regarding the decision not to order a retake of the penalty due to an area invasion.

In other Brasileirão action, Atlético-MG drew 1-1 with Chapecoense at Arena MRV. Cassierra scored for Atlético-MG to end a long scoring drought, but it was not enough to overcome Túlio Eduardo’s goal for Chapecoense. The draw leaves Atlético-MG in seventh place, while Chapecoense remains at the bottom of the table.
