Atlético Morelia defeats Leones Negros to lead Liga de Expansión

Atlético Morelia secured a 2-0 victory against Leones Negros of the Universidad de Guadalajara during Matchday 9 of the Liga de Expansión Apertura 2026 tournament. The match, held at Estadio Morelos before over 8,000 spectators, saw Rubén Del Campo score the opening goal in the 22nd minute following an assist from Josué Domínguez.

Prior to kickoff, players from both teams participated in a protest against the abolition of sporting promotion, displaying a banner that read: “México gritó por su libertad, hoy gritamos por la nuestra”.

With this win, Atlético Morelia has consolidated its position as the absolute leader of the general classification with 21 points, ahead of Atlético La Paz, UdeG, and Piratas de Veracruz.
