Atlético Nacional names Lucas González as coach amid recent league defeat
Colombian club Atlético Nacional appointed former player and assistant Lucas González as its new head coach, replacing Diego Arias. González, who has worked with Once Caldas and Deportivo Pereira, is expected to bring tactical innovation and focus on player development ahead of the 2024 season, including the Copa Libertadores qualifier against The Strongest.
Earlier in the domestic campaign, Atlético Nacional suffered a 1‑2 loss to Deportivo Pasto at the Estadio Libertad. Goals came from Alfredo Morelos (22') and Juan Manuel Rengifo (78') for Pasto, while Andrey Estupiñán scored a consolation for Nacional. The defeat kept Nacional in sixth place, underscoring the challenges the new coach must address.
