Atlético Nacional names Lucas González as new head coach

Colombian football club Atlético Nacional announced Lucas González as its head coach for the 2026-II season, after negotiations with former candidate Reinaldo Rueda fell through. González arrived from Deportes Tolima, bringing with him assistants Alexis Henríquez, Tiago Pina and fitness coach Camilo Cartagena.

The club also said it is pursuing experienced goalkeepers with World Cup pedigree, naming Uruguay’s Sergio Rochet (2026) and Argentina’s Franco Armani (2018, 2022) as its main targets. The hiring follows the departure of sporting director Gustavo Fermani, who was replaced by former player Víctor Marulanda as the club restructures its squad during the 2026 World Cup break.
