Spanish military associations demand protections for troops in Ceuta
Spanish military associations are demanding increased legal and physical protections for personnel deployed in Ceuta amid the ongoing migration crisis. Multiple organizations, including ATME, AUME, UMT, and ASFASPRO, have raised concerns regarding the safety and professional rights of troops operating in the autonomous city.
ATME has formally requested information from the Ministry of Defense following media reports alleging aggressions by soldiers against migrants. The association argues these claims lack direct evidence, such as video or photographic proof, and warns that unverified accusations could serve as part of 'hybrid warfare' strategies to discredit the Armed Forces. They are calling for an official institutional statement to clarify the situation.
Simultaneously, AUME, UMT, and ASFASPRO have appealed to the Ombudsman, Ángel Gabilondo, seeking better resources and security. They highlight risks including physical attacks, exposure to diseases, and the need for data protection to prevent the identification of service members and their families. The associations emphasize that troops lack the status of authority agents, leading to legal vulnerability when facing provocations.
