Atmospheric phenomena including aurora borealis and polar vortex activity reported in Poland

Astronomical and meteorological phenomena are expected to be visible in Poland. A coronal mass ejection from the Sun has triggered a strong magnetic storm, creating conditions for the aurora borealis to appear over the country. Experts suggest the best viewing window is from dusk until approximately 2:00 AM, with the highest probability of sightings in the north, though central and southern regions may also see the lights during the peak of the storm.

Simultaneously, the polar vortex is beginning to strengthen in the stratosphere. Unlike the previous 2025/26 season, which featured a weak and unstable vortex, current models from GEFS and ECMWF indicate a different development pattern for the 2026/27 season. The condition of the polar vortex is a critical factor in determining whether the upcoming winter will be characterized by freezing, snowy conditions or a milder, windier pattern dominated by Atlantic circulation.
