Atome expands lending and insurance services in the Philippines

Atome Philippines is expanding its service offerings beyond installment payments into lending and insurance to target underserved populations. The fintech company is utilizing alternative data to assess the creditworthiness of borrowers who lack traditional income documentation, such as payslips or tax records.

By analyzing mobile-based data—including transaction records, earnings patterns, and repayment behavior from sources like Grab drivers, TikTok Shop sellers, and small food stall owners—Atome aims to provide a more holistic underwriting assessment. Approved customers are initially granted micro spending limits, which are adjusted based on their ongoing earnings and repayment history.

According to the company, approximately 80% of its Philippine cardholders are using their first card product, and 65% of these users are women. The Atome PayLater Anywhere Card is compatible wherever Mastercard is accepted, with customers using it for essentials such as groceries, transport, fuel, and utility bills.

This expansion occurs amid shifting financial inclusion trends in the Philippines. While household financial account ownership rose to 85% in 2025 from 74% the previous year, central bank data indicates that adult financial account ownership fell to 50% in 2025 from 56% in 2021.
