Atomic Canyon launches AI virtual assistant for nuclear industry

Atomic Canyon has launched the Nuclear Industry Virtual Assistant (NIVA), a specialized AI platform designed for the commercial nuclear energy sector. Developed in collaboration with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), and the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), the tool helps professionals access and synthesize complex technical, regulatory, and operational data.

The platform utilizes Atomic Canyon’s Neutron workbench and FERMI AI models, which were trained on over 53 million pages of US Nuclear Regulatory Commission data using Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Frontier supercomputer. NIVA features a Knowledge Assistant for answering plain language questions and an Operating Experience Assistant that uses context rather than just keywords to surface relevant records. A troubleshooting assistant is currently in development.

Constellation Energy is among the initial users of the platform. The rollout is supported by investment from NVIDIA and former Vanguard Group CEO Tim Buckley, alongside existing investor Plug and Play Ventures. Previously, Atomic Canyon announced the commercial installation of its Neutron Enterprise solution at the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant in California.
