Lorenzo Musetti withdraws from Tokyo Open due to hand injury
Italian tennis player Lorenzo Musetti has withdrawn from the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo due to a small fracture in the ring finger of his right hand. The injury occurred during a training session, forcing the world No. 25 to miss his scheduled first-round match against Arthur Fery.
Musetti expressed significant disappointment on social media, noting his eagerness to play before the Japanese fans. This injury marks another setback in a difficult 2026 season that has included previous absences from Roland Garros and Wimbledon. The player is now focusing on recovery with the goal of competing in the Shanghai Masters starting October 7.
Portuguese player Jaime Faria has entered the main draw as a lucky loser to replace Musetti and will face Fery in the opening round. Other notable activity at the Tokyo tournament includes Taylor Fritz facing Jaume Munar and a match between Matteo Berrettini and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
