Atsumi Harasawa elected mayor of Yokohama

Atsumi Harasawa, a 59-year-old lawyer, has won the Yokohama mayoral election. Harasawa received support from the Liberal Democratic Party and Nippon Ishin no Kai.

The election was held following the resignation of former mayor Takeharu Yamanaka, who stepped down due to allegations of power harassment against city employees. Yamanaka ran for re-election but was defeated by Harasawa in a race featuring seven candidates.

Voter turnout was recorded at 45.56%, an increase of approximately 4 percentage points compared to the previous election.
