Atsushi Iwashita releases book on study methods used to pass bar exam
Atsushi Iwashita, a former executive at Facebook Japan, Microsoft Japan, and IBM Japan, is releasing a new book titled ‘The Map of Study to Fulfill Your Dreams’ (Yume o Kanaeru Benkyou no Chizu) on October 7. The book details the study methods Iwashita used to pass the bar exam through self-study after leaving IBM at age 51.
Iwashita argues that many people fail to see results because they rely solely on ‘input’—such as reading books or watching lectures—which creates a false sense of understanding. He proposes a three-step process for effective learning: ‘input,’ ‘understanding,’ and ‘retention.’ True mastery requires the ‘retention’ phase, where knowledge is repeatedly practiced until it can be recalled instantly, similar to knowing multiplication tables.
The book emphasizes creating a ‘system’ for learning rather than relying on willpower or talent. It covers planning, execution, and methods for maintaining continuity, incorporating business concepts like ‘process indicators’ and the ‘Quick & Dirty principle’ to optimize learning efficiency for professionals and students alike.
