AT&T disputes Iranian hacker claims regarding Texas outage

A dispute has emerged regarding the cause of a widespread AT&T internet outage that impacted thousands of customers in Texas, including areas such as Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, and Houston.

A hacking group identified as APT Iran, which is associated with the CyberAv3nger group and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, claimed responsibility for the disruption via Telegram. The group alleged they targeted telecommunications and a water utility in the state.

AT&T has officially refuted these claims, stating there is no evidence to support the allegation of a cyberattack. The company’s internal assessment indicates that the outage was caused by attempted cable theft. While the service disruption caused significant issues for over 7,000 families, AT&T reported that internet operations in the affected Dallas areas have since returned to normal.
