Attempted robbery of ATM cash van with ₹1.79 crore on Bangalore outskirts thwarted by crowd
Police are probing an alleged robbery attempt on a cash‑carrying ATM van on the Bannerghatta–Jigani Main Road outside Bengaluru. The vehicle, transporting ₹1.79 crore for routine ATM refills, was stopped when a group of motorcyclists parked in front and claimed the van had hit their bike. As the suspects argued with the driver and security guard, a crowd of onlookers gathered, disrupting any plan to seize the cash. The assailants fled after snatching the van’s key, leaving the vehicle stranded.
A case has been filed at Bannerghatta Police Station and investigators are reviewing video footage and witness statements to identify the perpetrators. The incident, captured on a video that went viral on social media, is being treated as a pre‑meditated attempt to loot the large cash shipment.
The police have launched a search for the suspects and are reviewing the evidence to determine whether the attack was part of a broader organized effort.
