Attersee aircraft wreckage recovered after fatal crash
The wreckage of a Tecnam P2002 JF light aircraft has been recovered from the Attersee lake in Austria following a fatal training flight. The aircraft, which crashed last Wednesday after departing from Salzburg, was located at a depth of approximately 160 to 163 meters.
After several failed attempts to use underwater robots due to poor visibility, specialized divers successfully descended to the wreckage to attach recovery lines. The plane was subsequently raised to the surface using a winch and a mobile crane.
The two occupants, a 24-year-old flight instructor and a 19-year-old student, both German nationals, were found in their seats and died in the accident. Authorities are working to formally identify the victims through DNA analysis.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the aircraft enter a spiral descent before hitting the water. The wreckage is being transported to Vienna for detailed analysis by aviation accident investigators and forensic experts.
