Attica authorities seize 6.2 tonnes of illegal meat

Regulatory inspectors from the Attica Region carried out a large‑scale operation that uncovered an unlicensed meat‑processing unit in Ilion. The inspection resulted in the seizure of 6,047 kg of meat products that lacked legal labeling or valid codes, deemed unsuitable for market sale. Tracing the distribution pathway revealed that the illegal batches had been sent to 20 food businesses throughout Attica, prompting further checks that added another 151 kg to the confiscated total, bringing the overall amount seized to 6.2 tonnes.

The findings triggered involvement from six regional units and the national food safety authority (EFET). Administrative penalty procedures are under way, with the regional governor, Nikos Chardalias, stating that there is "zero tolerance" for practices that jeopardise public health and consumer confidence.
