Attica Region launches ‘The Greater Athens Region’ tourism campaign
The Attica Region has introduced a new international tourism campaign titled ‘The Greater Athens Region’. During the presentation at the National Gallery, Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni emphasized that the initiative aligns with a national strategy to promote sustainable, high-quality tourism that benefits local communities.
The campaign aims to encourage visitors to explore more areas of the country across various seasons, providing diverse experiences while protecting the natural and cultural environment. Minister Kefalogianni noted that Athens and the wider Attica region have successfully established themselves as year-round destinations through sustained efforts to rebuild trust and recover tourism following the 2012 economic crisis.
Furthermore, the Minister highlighted the successful attraction of Greek businesses and major international hotel groups, noting an increase in four- and five-star accommodations in the region. She cited legislative changes made in 2014 regarding tourism investments, such as condo hotels, as key drivers for upgrading hotel properties, specifically mentioning the transformation of the historic Hilton into the Conrad Athens The Ilisian.
