Attica Region supports business internationalization through new study
The Attica Region is implementing measures to support the growth and competitiveness of businesses within the Attica Basin, aiming to strengthen their presence in both Greek and international markets. This initiative is part of the third thematic study by the Region's Competitiveness and Entrepreneurship Observatory, titled ‘Athens Forward: Strengthening the Extroversion and Competitiveness of Businesses’.
Conducted in collaboration with Grant Thornton and involving 244 local companies, the study examines the degree of internationalization among Attica-based enterprises. Key findings indicate that 66% of these businesses already operate internationally, demonstrating significant entrepreneurial potential and experience in global transactions.
Currently, internationalization remains primarily focused on trade and exports. The most common methods include direct exports of products and services (50%), the import of raw materials and components (45%), and partnerships with representatives. The study notes that forms of international presence requiring higher investment, organizational preparation, and long-term capital commitment remain limited.
