Attica Region wins Gold Award at Compliance Awards 2026
The Attica Region has won the Gold Award in the ‘Best Governance Implementation Project’ category at the Compliance Awards 2026. The recognition follows the successful implementation of the new General Government Accounting Framework and the overall modernization of the region's financial operations.
By utilizing the mandatory transition to the new accounting framework as an opportunity for digital and administrative transformation, the region reorganized critical processes and transitioned to a computerized system. These efforts resulted in the integration and interoperability of financial data, a reduction in errors, enhanced fiscal compliance, and improved quality of financial information. The use of real financial data has also improved budget accuracy and supported evidence-based administrative decision-making.
Attica Governor Nikos Hardalias stated that the region is responding to challenges regarding institutional reliability through transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to rules. He noted that the project transformed a regulatory obligation into an opportunity for modernization, setting a standard for public administration. Implementation manuals for the new framework have been published on the official Attica Region website for public use.
