Student housing costs rise sharply across Attica
Student housing in Attica is facing a significant crisis as rental prices continue to rise, placing a heavy financial burden on families and students. Research conducted by iEidiseis indicates that the vast majority of available apartments under 60 square meters now command monthly rents of at least 500 euros.
In the southern suburbs of Attica, out of 2,630 available units under 60 square meters, approximately 41% have asking rents ranging from 701 to 3,200 euros. The northern suburbs present even greater challenges due to limited availability and higher costs; nearly 70% of the 276 available units in that area require rents exceeding 700 euros.
Themis Bakas, president of the E-Real Estates network, reports that rental prices for student-appropriate properties have increased by approximately 75% since 2017. In Athens, seven out of ten apartments under 50 square meters are listed for over 500 euros, with many exceeding 600 or 700 euros per month. This trend is also being observed in traditional student and tourist hubs such as Chania, Rhodes, and Corfu.
