Attica schools launch cinematic education and film festivals
Educational and cultural initiatives are bringing cinema to schools across the Attica region in Greece. The ‘Movie Making Magic’ Film Education Festival, co-organized by the Municipality of Lykovrysi-Pefki, the Pefki Film Club, EKCOMED, and the General Secretariat of Communication and Information, is currently evaluating student films.
Participants received educational materials and attended online workshops led by director Maria Leonida to learn the stages of film production. Students are now submitting their short films to a digital platform, where they and their teachers will evaluate peer works based on specific criteria.
In a related effort, the Shedia Pedagogical and Artistic Training Center, in partnership with EKCOMED and the Federation of Greek Film Clubs, has launched the ‘Gyri-gyri me mia kamera’ (Around with a Camera) program. This initiative targets primary and secondary school teachers in six Attica municipalities: Athens, Elefsina, Kallithea, Keratsini-Drapetsona, Koridallos, and Chalandri.
The program aims to use cinema as a pedagogical tool to foster cooperation, combat discrimination, and promote inclusion. Teachers can undergo practical training to guide students in creating short films, which will be showcased in a competitive festival in December.
