Strong winds in Attica cause tree to crush car and wall collapse
On 27 June 2026, gusts of up to 124 km/h – the highest recorded nationwide at the Penteli peak – swept the Attica region. In the suburb of Mikhalakopoulou, a massive tree trunk fell onto a moving vehicle, crushing it while the driver remained unharmed. Firefighters quickly rescued the driver and began cutting away the trunk to prevent further damage.
A separate incident occurred in the Pangrati district, where a section of a wall at a renovation site on Ergotiou Street collapsed, blocking traffic but causing no injuries. Authorities warned residents to avoid large trees and unstable structures as the high winds were expected to continue into the following day.
