Attikon Hospital reports severe overcrowding and staffing shortages
The Attikon Hospital Employees' Association has released data detailing severe overcrowding and staffing shortages at the facility. Between September 3 and October 13, the hospital recorded 7,700 visits and 2,000 admissions.
According to the association, 1,300 patients were treated on stretchers in hallways during the first 40 days of autumn. Following each general shift, between 100 and 140 stretchers remain in use, with up to 40 patients staying in the Emergency Department for hospitalization.
The association reports that medical staff are working under extreme pressure, noting instances where only two or three nurses are responsible for 50 patients. To address the crisis, the association is demanding the immediate hiring of 130 permanent nurses, the full utilization of available nursing spaces, and the reopening of specific clinics, including Clinic 07 and the Urology Clinic.
