Attilio Petrogalli, former Italian enduro champion, dies at 73

Attilio Petrogalli, a former Italian national enduro champion, has died at the age of 73. His body was discovered on Wednesday afternoon, August 19, at an old mill near Clusone in the province of Bergamo.

Preliminary investigations suggest the incident occurred while Petrogalli was attempting to destroy a wasp nest located inside an abandoned van using gasoline and rags. The fire reportedly spread rapidly, producing significant amounts of smoke. Authorities are investigating whether smoke inhalation or asphyxiation caused him to lose consciousness, particularly as he was wearing a motorcycle jacket and a full-face helmet at the time.

Petrogalli was a prominent figure in the Italian enduro community during the 1970s. One of his most notable career achievements was winning the ‘Vaso d’Argento’ at the International Six Days of Enduro on the Isle of Man in 1975 as part of the Italian team.
