Attorney General Larry Devoe orders removal of detainee photos from social media

Attorney General Larry Devoe has instructed the Public Ministry (MP) to remove all digital publications from its social media platforms that feature photographs of detainees or attribute criminal responsibility to individuals who have not received a final conviction.

The directive aims to align institutional communication with constitutional mandates regarding due process, the presumption of innocence, and the protection of personal image. Devoe emphasized that the measure is rooted in the principle that everyone is considered innocent until proven guilty by a court.

The instruction cites specific constitutional articles, including Article 46, which mandates respect for the dignity of those deprived of liberty; Article 49, which guarantees the presumption of innocence; and Article 60, which protects an individual's honor, privacy, and reputation.
