Attorney General Todd Blanche refuses to rule out DOJ intervention in election certification
Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that the Department of Justice would not rule out intervening to block states from certifying midterm election results under certain hypothetical circumstances. During a press briefing, Blanche responded to inquiries about whether the DOJ might attempt to stall the certification process by stating, “Yes, of course there’s scenarios we could all come up with, hypothetically — some ‘doomsday’ scenario, for example.”
Blanche emphasized that it is never the department’s intention to “improperly interfere with elections or the state confirmation process or certification process.” However, he declined to claim that no such circumstances exist.
These remarks come amid ongoing Justice Department efforts to investigate alleged voter fraud, including litigation in California regarding the registration status of certain voters. The administration is also considering further election-related lawsuits following previous legal challenges regarding voter data access and mail-in voting procedures.
