Attrition prepares for second Cox Plate attempt at Flemington

Trainer Mitch Freedman is preparing the galloper Attrition for a second attempt at the Cox Plate. Due to renovations at Moonee Valley, this year’s 2040m weight-for-age championship will be held at Flemington, marking a departure from the race's traditional venue.

Attrition, currently considered a $51 outsider, enters the race in strong form following a second-place finish in the Hill Stakes at Rosehill. The seven-year-old gelding has earned nearly $4.4 million across 33 career starts, including a win in the Toorak Handicap and a narrow defeat in the Australian Guineas at Flemington.

Freedman noted that the horse is performing at a superior level compared to last year, when he finished fourth in the Cox Plate. Despite having yet to win at Flemington, Freedman believes the horse's current data and physical condition make him a strong contender for punters.
