ATU launches safety training for school transport drivers

The Urban Transport Authority for Lima and Callao (ATU) has announced a virtual training program titled ‘Rutas seguras: formación integral para la convivencia en el servicio de transporte especial de estudiantes’. The initiative, supported by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), aims to prevent violence and enhance student protection during school commutes.

The training sessions are scheduled for October 12, 14, 16, and 19. Participants will learn to identify risk behaviors, manage emergencies, and resolve conflicts to ensure the well-being of children and adolescents. The curriculum includes guidance on communication, active listening, and mediation to foster a respectful environment within transport units.

This program follows public concern regarding student safety, specifically following an investigation into an alleged sexual assault involving a student during a school bus transit. The training seeks to reinforce the responsibilities of drivers and operators in safeguarding minors during their daily travels.
