Atucha II and Embalse nuclear plants achieve top global performance rankings
Argentine nuclear power plants Atucha II and Embalse have achieved some of the highest performance rankings in the global nuclear industry. According to the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) PI-Index for the second quarter of 2026, Atucha II earned a perfect score of 100 points, marking the first time it has reached the maximum indicator since beginning commercial operations in 2014.
Embalse also demonstrated high performance, scoring 98.4 points out of 100. The PI-Index is a quarterly tool used by WANO to compare the performance of 383 operational nuclear plants worldwide, evaluating metrics such as worker safety, radiological protection, chemical system control, equipment reliability, and load factor.
These results follow a record-breaking year in 2025 for both facilities. During that period, Atucha II produced 5,408,372 megawatt-hours and Embalse produced 5,352,202 megawatt-hours. Nucleoeléctrica Argentina stated that these achievements support their strategy to expand their international presence through the export of technical knowledge and services.
