Aubagne school shooting: 14-year-old student wounds principal and teacher FAST-MOVING

A 14-year-old student opened fire at Joseph-Lakanal Middle School in Aubagne, near Marseille, on Monday morning, October 12, 2026. The teenager entered the building with a 12-gauge hunting shotgun concealed inside a guitar case.

The suspect fired multiple shots, wounding the 53-year-old principal in the lower body and a 37-year-old teacher in the thigh. A third person sustained a minor injury. Both victims were treated for non-life-threatening wounds.

A staff member successfully disarmed and restrained the student before police arrived. The teenager, who reportedly had no prior criminal record, told investigators he felt “harassed by the school” and “unloved.”

Authorities and officials, including Education Minister Edouard Geffray and Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez, confirmed that the incident is not connected to the ongoing nationwide student protests and blockades occurring across France. The Marseille prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into attempted murder. Additionally, the suspect's father was taken into custody following the discovery of weapons at the family residence.
