AUBASA implements new safety standards for Buenos Aires highways

AUBASA (Autopistas de Buenos Aires S.A.), the state-owned company managing several routes in Buenos Aires, has announced new safety standards for highway infrastructure. The company is banning the use of ‘fish tail’ type metal barrier terminals in all new construction projects due to their tendency to penetrate vehicles during frontal impacts.

Moving forward, all new works on routes 2, 6, 11, 56, 63, and 74 must incorporate higher-security defense terminals, such as energy-absorbing tips or Type A rounded ends. AUBASA is also implementing a progressive replacement plan for existing barriers across its entire network, prioritizing high-traffic areas and sectors with high accident rates to minimize the consequences of road collisions.
