Auburn safeties Eric Winters and Champ Anthony stand out in preseason

Auburn co-defensive coordinator Tim Banks has highlighted two key players standing out in the Tigers’ safety room during preseason camp: sophomore Eric Winters and senior Champ Anthony.

Winters, a former four-star recruit, is noted for his physicality and ability to play in the box. Banks described him as one of the larger safeties in the country, noting his ability to create mismatches against slot blockers.

Anthony, who has previously dealt with injuries during his first two seasons at Auburn, is being praised for his leadership and passion. Banks indicated that Anthony’s versatility could allow him to play both safety and cornerback during the 2026 season.
