Auburn defeats Baylor 17-16 in dramatic season opener

Auburn secured a 17-16 victory over Baylor in the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, marking the first win for head coach Alex Golesh. The game was a defensive struggle characterized by multiple turnovers and mistakes from both teams.

In the final seconds, Baylor attempted a two-point conversion to win the game after a touchdown by Gavin Freeman brought the score to 17-16. Auburn safety Eric Winters made a decisive goal-line stop on Baylor tight end Matthew Klopfenstein, preserving the win with nine seconds remaining.

Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown led a late 75-yard drive, capped by an 11-yard rushing touchdown, to give the Tigers a lead. Despite the win, Brown struggled with three interceptions. Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway threw for 333 yards and two touchdowns but also faced turnovers, including a fumble and an interception.
