Auburn upsets No. 1 Georgia 27-24 with walk-off field goal

Unranked Auburn pulled off a major upset against No. 1 Georgia with a 27-24 victory at Sanford Stadium. The win was secured by Alex McPherson, who kicked a 34-yard field goal as time expired.

Georgia initially held a 14-0 lead, but Auburn responded with 24 unanswered points to take control. Although the Bulldogs rallied in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 24-24, a late fumble by quarterback Gunner Stockton with 58 seconds remaining allowed Auburn to regain possession. A subsequent roughing-the-passer penalty helped set up McPherson’s walk-off kick.

Auburn’s quarterback Byrum Brown led the Tigers with 115 rushing yards and a touchdown, alongside 150 passing yards. Georgia was hampered by three turnovers, including two interceptions by Stockton. The loss ended Georgia’s nine-game winning streak against Auburn and their 53-game winning streak against unranked opponents. This marks the first time since October 1990 that the AP Top 25 No. 1 team has lost to an unranked opponent in consecutive weeks.
