Auchan Romania launches Smart Cart pilot in Bucharest

Auchan Romania has launched a pilot project called ‘Smart Cart’ at its Drumul Taberei hypermarket in Bucharest to test new digital shopping experiences. The system uses a flexible model where standard shopping carts are converted into smart carts by attaching a tablet to a specialized holder.

Currently, the pilot includes 24 tablets and 90 compatible carts. To use the service, customers must be members of the MyCLUB Auchan loyalty program with at least 1,000 points. After scanning their loyalty card to unlock a tablet, the device assists throughout the shopping process.

Key features include the ability to scan handwritten shopping lists, which the system automatically converts into a digital format on the screen. The tablets also provide customers with direct access to digital catalogs and current store offers.
