Auchan supermarkets transition to new brands in France

A significant restructuring of the French retail landscape is underway as Auchan continues to divest its supermarket division. On October 31, 2026, a wave of 39 supermarkets across France—including locations in Paris, Toulouse, Strasbourg, and Hyères—will cease operating under the Auchan brand.

These stores will transition to new signage, primarily under the Les Mousquetaires group, specifically Intermarché and Netto. This move follows Auchan's November 2025 announcement to focus its operations on hypermarkets and drive-through services, effectively offloading nearly 300 supermarkets. The transition has received unconditional approval from the French Competition Authority.

The rebranding process involves temporary closures of approximately 15 days per location. This restructuring is part of a broader strategy by the retailer to manage ongoing financial difficulties and shift its business model.
