Auckland Council renews 24-hour pothole repair commitment

Auckland Council has relaunched its ‘Pothole Promise’ campaign, committing to repair 95% of reported potholes on the city’s busiest arterial and regional roads within 24 hours. For potholes located on other sealed roads, the council aims to complete repairs within five working days.

The council manages approximately 8,000km of local roads, including over 1,000km of high-volume routes that experience more than 10,000 vehicle movements daily. This initiative is part of a broader road maintenance and renewal strategy. Last year, the council resurfaced more than 500km of sealed roads, with plans for an expanded resurfacing programme scheduled for 2026/27.

Officials are encouraging motorists to report potholes via the council’s website to facilitate faster responses. Andy Baker, chair of the Transport and Infrastructure Delivery Committee, described the programme as a practical approach to addressing everyday issues for road users, while Alan Wallace, head of road asset maintenance and renewals, noted that daily inspections and repairs are ongoing to maintain the network.
