Auckland police launch emergency search for missing boy near estuary

A large-scale emergency search operation was launched in Glendene, West Auckland, after an autistic boy went missing from his family home on July 10. The situation became critical as authorities realized the child was heading toward an estuary area where tides were expected to rise within hours.

New Zealand Police activated emergency protocols, deploying both ground crews and the Eagle police helicopter to scan the dense bush, mangroves, and muddy terrain. Acting Inspector Nick Salter of the Waitematā West police noted the extreme urgency due to the risk of hypothermia and the unpredictable water levels in the estuary. The search focused on the area after a neighbor reported seeing the boy walking toward thick vegetation near the water's edge.
